Professional Profile: Dr Li currently is working as Professor and Head of Medical & Surgical Nursing Department at Peking University School of Nursing. This role incorporates strategic leadership to provide academic development and education for graduate and undergraduate level. Dr Li has had an impactful career as a professional leader both nationally and internationally. She was one of the first group of Diabetes Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mainland China. With her effort and contribution, the Diabetes Education and Management Branch was established under the umbrella of China Diabetes Society in 2002. In acknowledgement of her clinical leadership she was invited to represent clinical nurses on International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Education Counsel Section serving for a period of four years. From 2022, Dr Li started to serve as the Co-chair and Chair of International Nurse Council (ICN) Nurse Practitioner / Advance Practice Nurse Network Education Subgroup. Dr Li has led reconstruction of Medical and Surgical Nursing courses for undergraduate nursing programme from independently discipline model to trans-discipline and system-based model in response to clinical nursing service changes and needs. She also led to establish the first Advanced Nurse Practitioner Program of China in post-graduate education. Her interdisciplinary teaching team has worked closely with domestic and international expert in conducting online courses on chronic disease management and NP training. Dr Li’s research work has been focusing on chronic disease management especially diabetes care from nursing professional view. As the principle investigator, she undertook more than 20 international and domestic research projects. Dr Li’s research team had set up several cohorts of chronic disease patients in rural and urban communities. She also cooperated closely with 25 clinical centers throughout the country. Structured Treatment and Education Program (STEP), which is a nurse-led chronic disease management model established by Dr Li’s team, has now been successfully promoted to 1,600 primary hospitals and community health service centers in 110 cities and counties of 29 provinces around China. |
