The aging population is increasing, and the demand for geriatric nursing and rehabilitation has become increasingly prominent. In order to meet the needs of aging population, the Department of Geriatric Nursing and Rehabilitation was formally established in January 2019. There are currently 4 professors, Shang Shaomei, Wan Qiaoqin, Wu Chao, Shi Yuexian; all of them accept doctoral students. There are also three post-doctoral fellows.

The graduate course undertaken by this department include “Nursing Theory”, “Leadership in Nursing and Health Care”, “Advanced Practice and Research Progress for Geriatric Nursing”, “Development of Scales and Evaluation of Validity and Reliability”, “Research Progress for Sports Rehabilitation and Nursing”, “Comprehensive functional assessment and practice”. The undergraduate courses include “Geriatric Nursing”, “Sports Rehabilitation and Nursing”, “Health Statistics”, et al.

The research areas include geriatric nursing, smart health care, rehabilitation of chronic diseases, mental health, and geriatric care related policies and standards. Professors in this department have conducted several national grants, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, The National Social Science Fund of China, and published over 300 peer-reviewed articles.
