The Nursing Humanities Education and Research Department

The Department of Nursing Humanities Education and Research was founded in 1999.Currently, there are three faculty members.Among them, there is one professor, one associate professor, and one lecturer.Professor Sun Hongyu is the director of the department.

1.Responsible for the teaching of nursing humanities courses in nursing school

The Department of Nursing Humanities Education andResearch undertakes the teaching of graduate courses such as nursing education, nursing management, and advanced nursing practice, as well as undergraduate compulsory courses including nursing ethics and law, nursing education, nursing management, nursing psychology, and nursing interpersonal communication and etiquette.Additionally, in recent years, the department has also introduced elective courses including nursing humanities care, nursing +X innovation, and entrepreneurship practice.Moreover, online courses such as nursing education, nursing interpersonal communication, nursing humanities care, and advanced nursing practice are available on platforms like Chinese MOOCs and Medical University Online.In summary, the department is dedicated to fostering the ability of nursing students to provide humanistic care and enhance their humanistic spirit and literacy.

2.Aligning with the Double First-Class Construction, actively engage in teaching research

The Department of Nursing Humanities Education andResearch attaches great importance to the construction of humanities disciplines, and following the deployment of the university, deeply explores teaching models suitable for the characteristics of this discipline.Actively carry out teaching innovations in undergraduate teaching, including small-class teaching, integration of clinical expertise into theoretical teaching, case discussions, problem-based learning (PBL), role-playing, and debates.Within split-class teaching,exploring teaching methods and approaches that fully stimulate students' enthusiasm and participation, and improving the collective lesson preparation system for clinical teachers.While leveraging theextensiveclinical practical experience of clinical teachers, ensuring the precision and scientific rigor of undergraduate teaching quality.

In terms of teaching technology innovation,the department actively integrates the demands of teaching ecology and educational formats, collaborating closely with the university in promoting the development of blended teaching pilot courses. It also actively engages in research and practical implementation of blended teaching, combining online and offline approaches. For example, recorded online courses include nursing humanities care, nursing education, nursing interpersonal communication, and nursing management. By employing the aforementioned approaches, modern information technology is intricately woven into nursing humanities education and teaching, fostering the development of novel models for nursing humanities education and teaching, thereby establishing the groundwork for the construction of first-class disciplines and courses.

In response to Xi Jinping's directives at the National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities, the department actively explores the integration of ideological and political education into humanities courses, to achieve comprehensive student development. The department spearheads a research initiative to establish a case library integrating ideological and political education with humanities courses in nursing. Through these endeavors, the department aims to integrate ideological and political education into students' professional training, innovate and implement ideological and political education methods, infuse ideological and political content into nursing humanities courses, and ultimately foster students' noble ideals, beliefs, and ethical standards.

3. Strengthening research output to promote teaching through research

The Department of Nursing Humanities Education andResearch actively engages in research, making efforts to improve research output. Led by Professor Sun Hongyu, the department has formed multi-center, interdisciplinary research teams.Through collaboration with leading domestic institutions, partnerships with industry regulatory bodies, and involvement of frontline clinical and community teams, research focuses on scientific investigations and outcome translation in emerging domains like comprehensive chronic disease management, health big data, and medical and nursing robotics, catering to the general populace.The research team upholds a pragmatic approach to offering comprehensive lifelong health services to the entire population, with a focus on proactive health science, and is dedicated to fostering cross-disciplinary integration of nursing with fields like public health, biomedicine, and emerging engineering to drive technological innovation.Professor Sun Hongyu has spearheaded a variety of research projects, including sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program, general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, general projects of the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and new humanities projects of the Ministry of Education over the past five years.Research focuses on constructing risk prediction models for prevalent chronic diseases using real-world data and artificial intelligence technologies like knowledge graphs and big data models, along with innovating new methods and applications for health intelligence monitoring.Presently, research findings have been published in 13 high-level journals.

In the future, The Department of Nursing Humanities Education and Research will persist in prioritizing proactive research and collaborative efforts, led by the interdisciplinary research group under the leadership of Sun Hongyu, with a focus on areas including intelligent non-invasive health monitoring, precise prediction and early warning of chronic diseases, proactive health interventions across the lifespan, encompassing the establishment and dissemination of computer-understandable and inferable health medical knowledge systems based on intelligent health monitoring and disease risk warning, as well as the execution of proactive health intervention models like health behavior promotion, cognitive function training, home care, and intelligent assistive device applications for diverse populations.

Humanistic spirit is the pursuit of ideal human nature in an era, emphasizing the centrality of human beings, concern for, care of, and respect for individuals.Humanities encompass not only knowledge, emotions, morals, and aesthetics, but also the integration of understanding, insight, discernment, critical thinking, and empathy.The Department of Nursing Humanities Education andResearch is dedicated to the research and teaching of nursing humanities education, with the responsibility of nurturing high-quality nursing professionals with moral integrity and expertise. The department is also open to collaboration and the exchange of ideas with both domestic and international counterparts.
